Hong Kong QMAS

Hong Kong tops the list of most desirable destinations for people who wish to settle abroad. The country is looking forward for skilled professionals and offers lucrative opportunities to make them settle in the country. To encourage skilled immigrants, the government has outlined Hong Kong quality migrant admission scheme (QMAS) to lure skilled professionals who can contribute their skills for the betterment of economy. It is a quota-based entrant scheme and does not necessitate qualified applicants to secure a job offer prior to their entry.

 

Hong Kong QMAS requirements

 

In order to apply under Hong Kong QMAS, applicants need to fulfill some basic requirements such as:

  1. Applicants age must be at least 18 at the time of filing application

  2. You must hold enough funds to meet the expenses during your stay in the country

  3. Applicants background should be free from  criminal record

  4. Applicants should have a grip in either Chinese (Putonghua or Cantonese) or English 

  5. Applicant must have good educational background, preferably a first degree from a reputed university or a tertiary educational institution. In few cases, sound technical knowledge with proven professional capabilities or achievements backed with documents will be considered

  6. Must qualify in points based system

Aspirants who meet aforesaid requirements can get their criteria evaluated through either general or achievement-based points tests.   

 

General based points system

 

In general based tests, there are five factors under which an applicant can score points. The five factors include age, academic qualifications, work experience, language proficiency and family background. The qualifying mark in general based points system is 80.

 

Achievement-based Points Test

Individuals who possess excellent talent or skills with exceptional achievements can undertake achievement based points test. Specifications for this test are very high. Under achievement based points test, an individual will be evaluated based on their achievements and need to score 165 points under one scoring factor.   

 

In achievement-based points test, points will be awarded based on:

  1. Exceptional achievements such as Nobel Prize, Olympic medals, national/international awards; or

  2. Work that should be recognized by their peers or contributed for the growth of the respective field  

 

Selection procedure of QMAS

 

Upon qualifying in points based system, aspirants need to compete for quota allocation with other applicants. Applications that fulfill the requirements and qualify in points based system will be ranked according to the scores they have achieved.

 

Features of Hong Kong QMAS

Successful applicants can bring their dependents such as spouse or children under 18 years to Hong Kong provided satisfying the condition that they are capable enough to meet their expenses during their stay in the country.
