Key Changes Announced in the GSM Points Requirement of South Australia

South Australia has announced the key changes in the point’s requirement for its General Skilled Migration (GSM) Program. The requirement by SA has been increased from 80 to 85 points for the high points state nomination once the total quota of nomination has been obtained under the current requirement of 80 points.

Changes will be effective from April 19, 2017

The changes in the point system will be effective from April 19, 2017 (9 am). The applications However, the application lodged before this time will not get affected by these changes. As per Immigration South Australia, the application received for high point’s nomination after

April 19, 2017 will get summarily rejected if they don’t score 85 points.

Occupations kept out of the high points and chain migration streams.The occupations which have been kept out of the high points and chain migration are as follows:

  • Accountant (General)

  • Human resources Adviser

  • Marketing Specialist

  • Sales Representative

  • University Lecturer

  • University Tutor

  • Hospital Pharmacist

  • Retail Pharmacist

All the above mentioned occupations won’t be available for the high point or chain migration with instant effect. However the mentioned change won’t be applicable to the applications lodged before April 5, 2017 (1 pm).

State Nominated Visa in Australia

If you wish to apply for State nominated visa in Australia, you have the options of applying for Skilled nominated Subclass 190 visa which is the permanent residence visa or Skilled Regional (Provisional) Subclass 489 Visa. The later one is the temporary skilled visa that allows you to live and work in the regional parts of Australia for up to four years.

However, as per the process if you apply for a State nominated visa, you first need to obtain the nomination from an Australian state or territory government agency. You also require obtaining required points on the SkillSelect online system based on your key profile factors, i.e. age, work experience, language ability, qualification, etc. You will also get points for the nomination you receive from the state or territory government agency.

If you are selected by the authorities based on your scored points on SkillSelect, you will get the ITA (Invitation to Apply) for the visa. You need to apply for the relevant visa within 60 days of the receipt of Invitation to Apply.
