Newfoundland and Labrador Mulls to welcome 1700 New Immigrants Annually

Newfoundland and Labrador- A key Atlantic province of Canada, considers inviting and welcoming about 1700 new immigrants annually. This means the province has to do increase its current immigration target by fifty percent.

The new immigration target of the province was declared last week on the occasion of the launch of new strategy document of the Newfoundland and Labrador.

New Strategy Document

The New Strategy document of the province of Newfoundland and Labrador is a 26 page document that includes the key plans and strategies to enhance the retention rate of the province as well as attract more and more immigrants to the province in the years to come.

The whole strategy has been segregated in two phases. The first phase includes the steps for the year 2017, whereas the second phase encompasses the steps to be taken from year 2018 to 2022. There are total of 39 steps out of which 24 steps have been planned for the first phase, i.e. 2017.

The phase one steps include the following:

  • Enhanced application processing system of the province

  • Coordination with the third party for the settlement services

  • Enhancement of the immigration website of the provincial government

  • Exploring the options to add more categories to NLPNP (Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program)- A key provincial Nominee program of the province.

Moreover, by the year 2022, the government plans to capitalize on these initial steps as well as start a new online portal that will allow the candidates as well as employers to find out their status in NLPNP (Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program).

Key Pathways to Settle in Newfoundland & Labrador at now

At now there are a few pathways through which you can settle in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, i.e.

  • Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program (NLPNP)

The NLPNP is the crucial Provincial Nominee Program of the province. The NLPNP has few keys streams designed for the skilled workers, i.e.

  • NLPNP Skilled worker stream and Express Entry Skilled Worker Stream

  • International Graduate Stream

More than fifty percent of the immigrants in the province come via Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program (NLPNP) only.

  • The Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program (AIPP)

The Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program (AIPP) has been designed for the Atlantic provinces of Canada including the Newfoundland and Labrador. This program has been launched recently in coordination with the federal government. The AIPP is accepting the applications at now. The key streams of AIPP are:

  • Atlantic High-Skilled Program (AHSP)

  • Atlantic Intermediate-Skilled Program (AISP)

  • Atlantic International Graduate Program (AIGP)
