2.47 Lakhs Indians In The Race For H1b Visa Applications

There has been a record increase in the H-1B visa aspirants and during the first nine months of the current US financial year, 2.47 lakh applications, were received from Indians. They have remained at the top and are the largest group of immigrants. It is 74% of the total applications between 1st October 2016, and 30th June 2017. The Indians had filed 3 lakh applications in 2015-16. the number of Chinese H1-B aspirants is low standing at 36,362 followed by 35,720 applications from Canada. The US Citizenship and Immigration Services has released this data and has reported that several applications were still pending for approval.

Indians have a strong and diversified presence in the application pool and have the brightest chance to benefit in terms of the visa approvals granted. From October 1, 2006, to June 30, 2017, Indians had applications standing at 21.83 lakh, followed by the Chinese who were marginally meagre at 2.96 lakh. The Philippines had a mere 85,918. among the Indian companies. Cognizant had a share of 21459, Infosys had 12,780 and TCS had 11,295. The range of salaries was between $71819 and 84303 which is below the minimum salary for H-1B visa holders pegged at $130,000 in the reform bill.
